Fixing temporary profile issues in Windows

A domain PC user could not access their profile. All documents and settings were gone, and an error similar to 'Using default system profile' popped up on login. Upon checking the event logs, the computer could not resolve the dns of the domain controller over the vpn. I attempted to remotely remove the pc from the domain but could not add it back. I even tried using the C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file to simulate the proper name resolution, but to no avail. I had the PC brought to the main office, where it was able to be joined back on the domain.

Graduation

Last week was my final week at Wyncode Ft. Lauderdale and after nine weeks of intense Ruby on Rails training, I'm moving on to bigger things. Keep posted for new announcements. I'm also opening the site open to commenters, please be respectful. Also check out the Portfolio page, I've added a new project. Together with Bryan Martinez, we created a Ruby on Rails web app for scheduling and billing which syncs to iCloud.

How to add your images to Rails and make Heroku host them!

First, upload your images to app/assets/images and push to heroku.
Heroku needs Rails to 'precompile' your images in order to serve them. Run heroku run rake assets:precompile at your command prompt. In your views, you will need to reference the public image path, and Rails fills this path in for you using two functions:
image_tag filename, height: height, width: width, class: class, alt: alt text

Using LogMeIn in Safe Mode (with networking)

Today I had a client with a major malware issue - browser search hijackers, popups, 10+ new programs installed in one day with vague titles...your typical compromised system. I had previously installed LogMeIn so I could help with their IT issues remotely (especially since they are located about 45min away). After whittling down the crop of malware using Programs and Features, there will still 2 pesky programs left - YTDownloader and SpaceSoundPro. These programs would not uninstall nor could I delete the program directories as there were DLL files in memory.

MySQLDumper

Excellent Free utility! I was moving one of my client's Wordpress sites to a new host. After installing the latest Wordpress, themes and plugins, and using the Wordpress xml export and import, I though I was done moving the site. After seeing the website go back to looking something like a blog from 2007, I had to do something else to migrate the rest of the custom tables used by the theme and plugins. A quick Google search yielded MySQLDumper. I was a bit skeptical as the program is 4 years old, but downloaded it anyway.

Windows Downgrades - Be sure you have Pro!

Yesterday my superior at work purchased a Dell XPS tower from Best Buy with Windows 8.1 with the intentions of using it as a high-power camera viewing station for a customer. However, after the purchase, the customer emailed us that they required Windows 7 due to 'issues with IE11' with their proprietary web software. I was tasked with the downgrade and told that there is not enough money in the job to purchase Windows 7 new.

Windows Server Install - error x80300024

I tried to install Windows Server on a machine that I had already partitioned the hard disk as MBR into OS and data partitions. After selecting the first partition to install Windows, I got the error message:
Windows is unable to install to the selected location error 0x80300024
